The Neil Holmes Power Boat Training Centre News

October 2007!

The Neil Holmes powerboat & race training centre is delighted to be the official trainer for The Round Britain 08 race .

The centre based at Drivers wharf in Southampton specialises in high performance and race training. Neil was a successful entrant in the 1984 round Britain event and as such has gained a wealth of knowledge in endurance racing, logistics and the practicalities of entering such an event which will all be included in the race training.

What’s new for us and our clients in 2007!

March/ April issue of Rib International featured an interview with Neil

The Training centre now has its new faster pursuit & training boat, a 7.5 metre Evolution Rib fitted with a 225 Evinrude  HO E-Tech

May bank holiday saw us at the Sportboat & Rib show as a support vessel to Team Raymarine Racing followed by a wet and windy weekend at Ribex

Well done to Jackie Hunt & Mike Shelton in Extremeboat.com. Waves of up 5 metres made the going hard in the first round of the P1 championships 5th/6th May but the team managed to cross the finish line ahead of the rest of their class and third overall

Honda F4SA racing held its first event in Torquay over the 12/13th May again rough conditions prevailed but it was great to hear all our clients got out there and did their bit, getting some impressive positions despite the weather!

Despite Greek national champion Andreas Halkiopoulos badly bruising his ribs in the P1 event two weeks ago he achieved a first place position in the first national Greek championship race of the season.

Scrap heap challenge.

In June Neil was asked to teach Scrap Heap Challenge presenter Lisa Rogers how to drive a high performance boat for the next series. The weather was kind and Lisa enjoyed the experience of driving the Phantom Evolution sports rib. The programme is expected to be aired late this year or early 2008.

What’s happened for us and our clients in 2006!

Congratulations went to:

Jackie and Mike Shelton on winning the 2006 P1 Championships. Their Dragon Mono hull powered by 2 x mercruiser 525 EFIs & sponsored by Arpro won the Super Sport class.

Andreas Halkiopoulos managed to hold onto his title of ‘Greek national champion’ for the second year running. His SR9 powered with 2x mercury EFIs reached speeds of 98.4mph.

16 year old Jake Swann won in both the K400 & K1000 classes with his 14ft Fletcher powered by a Yamaha 40 & a Phantom 16 with 60hp mercury engine

Shelley Jory & Libby Keir fought hard in the 2006 Honda Formula Four Stroke series to achieve third place in the 225 championship

Marcus Bradshaw in ‘Construction racing’ gained second position in the 150 Honda series. Managing to raise a considerable amount of money for charity in the process
